QUEER DRAMA

Take up space. Tell stories. Build community.

What is Queer Drama?

Queer Drama is a class for LGBTQIA+ and allied youth to build community and claim their place on and off stage. Through acting exercises, improvisation games, and scene work, students develop their performance skills while exploring what it means to be seen and heard.
Students are given the agency to choose scenes that explore themes relevant to them. Queer stories deserve to be centered, uplifted, and celebrated. And at the same time, queer performers deserve access to all stories, not just the ones they’ve historically been limited to. This is a space where students don’t have to shrink themselves to fit a role. Instead, we ask: what happens when you bring your full self into the work?

Why Queer Drama?

Theater has long excluded and typecast queer voices. Queer Drama pushes back against that. This class is about visibility, agency, and belonging. It’s about giving young people the tools and the space to express themselves fully, take creative risks, and support each other in the process. It’s about building confidence not just as performers, but as people who deserve to be seen, heard, and taken seriously.
