Acting is Believing (Gr. 6-10)

Acting is Believing explores techniques of acting through theatrical games, movement exercises, voice development, storytelling, and improvisation. Classes focus on the elements found in scenes, monologues and full-length productions. Students grow their creative skills and develop the tools they need to successfully prepare for the parts they were meant to play. This class prepares students for our full scale witner 415 Teen Ensemble Production.

Your Best Audition (Gr. 8-12)

Looking your best at an audition is essential to achieving your goals in landing that lead role or getting into a performing arts school. This class is especially geared towards students interested in going to Ruth Asawa School of the Arts (SOTA), preparing for a high school play audition or even a BFA College program, and covers the essential aspects of a strong audition.

Power Plays: (English)

A workshop for English-speaking or bilingual youth, aged 14-20 interested in discovering the art of theater. In the fall semester, you will learn about basic elements of acting, improvisation, and playwriting and start developing a project of your choice. The winter semester will be spent creating a performance--online or in-person--acting and directing each other’s plays and ideas. Students will have total creative freedom over their own pieces and content. We believe theatre is a powerful vehicle for the empowerment of young voices.

Meisner Acting Workshop (gr. 9-College
An acting workshop for high school and college actors focusing on Mesiner technique. Meisner defines acting as “Living truthfully under imaginary circumstances”.  Learn action and reaction, the pinch and the ouch, and other techniques to connect an actor with the present moment on camera and onstage. This is an acting technique which can thrive in the webcam online environment and while learning and practicing remotely we will be focused on being present and “working off” each other. This is a great technique to add to your actors toolbox for scenes, stage plays and film work.
Puppet Theatre Workshop (gr. 2-5)

Students will create their own fantastic puppets using found objects and things from the natural world. What do you have in your house that could be transformed into a puppet and given a personality? The workshop will culminate in a wonderful and surprising performance for friends and family. Each student will have a chance to develop their skills as a visual artist, grow as an actor and stretch their imagination. Puppetry is one of the oldest and most popular art forms and a great way for young people to experiment with voices, emotions, self-expression, theater magic and humor.

SFYT Radio Drama Company (gr. 9-College)

Radio drama has been a big part of popular culture for many years, and now in the current digital age, it's spreading everywhere! In SFYT's Radio Drama class, we'll explore time-honored techniques of radio drama at the same time we create stories that reflect our lives today. Students will create original characters that inhabit a fictional town (that may resemble the one you live in). During the class, students will develop their skills in voice acting, script writing, sound design and more!
