The Afterlife tells the story of two teenagers--Chuy, who dies by violence and Crystal, who dies by suicide. The two meet in the Afterlife, a place between the living and the dead. Their encounter yields deep conversations of what gets lost when a teen dies. The Afterlife is a profound theatre experience is written for high school and college aged students who have experienced loss, or struggle with depression and thoughts of suicide. The story mixes humor and pathos to open discussions for healing and connection, opening the doors for teens to consider their true value in the world.
SFYT has been touring The Afterlife since January 2019 throughout the Bay Area and Central California with incredible performances and audience responses. If you would like to bring the show to your school or community center, please contact: Emily.firstname.lastname@example.org
-The play showed me visually of how my life would’ve been if I made certain decisions. I’ve been through so much in life and I thought that ending my life was the right decision to make all the pain go away. Then I started to talk with people more and open up about it. I learned that people just want to get away from their pain, not their life. This play really opened up part of me and finally made me realize what I used to avoid… happiness.
