San Francisco Youth Theatre offers classes and performance workshops for youth ages 3-24 years old. Check out our individual class pages to learn how we tailor our programs to each age group.

Story Theater

Sally Davis will delight young actors with costumes, fantasy, music and movement. Children will act out stories from around the world, creating magic through theater.

Take the Stage (Gr. 2-5)

Join fun and dynamic theater directors Maica Folch and Dyana Diaz for a fun and surprising journey into the world of theater. In this workshop students will develop their acting and improvisation skills through theater games, scene work, story telling, creative movement, music making and character exploration.

Find your voice, build self-confidence, and discover the joys and challenges of performance and collaboration. This is great preparation for SFYT's full-scale elementary performance ensemble, Madcap Players beginning in January.

Students will perform in our Winter Showcase: Thursday December 5.

Acting is Believing (Gr. 6-10)

Acting is Believing explores the technique of acting through exciting and new theatrical games,movement exercises, storytelling, and improvisational work. Students will grow their creative talents as they explore their own lives and the lives of other characters. Classes will also focus on the ingredients and elements found in scenes, monologues and full-length productions. Each actor will develop the tools they need to successfully prepare for the parts they were meant to play. Students will develop the skills they need for SFYT's spring production in a safe and trusting environment where each actor can full express their unique and creative voice.  

Students will perform in our Winter Showcase: Thursday December 5.

Your Best Audition (Gr. 8-12)

Looking your best at an audition is essential to achieving your goals in landing that lead or getting a space in a performing arts school like Ruth Asawa School of the Arts. This class covers essential aspects of a strong audition.

Choosing and Preparing Audition Material: students will learn how to choose appropriate material with which to audition and prepare at least two monologues in different styles.

The Audition Process: students will hone their audition materials and be given opportunities to perform in front of others.

Students will perform in our Winter Showcase: Thursday December 5.

MadCap Players (Grades 2-5)

In this workshop young actors will learn the steps of a full scale performance that includes improvisation, creative movement, music, and character exploration. Under the playful guidance of children’s theater wizards Maica Folch and Dyana Díaz, the troupe will create a set, build props and bring to life a story to be announced. This theatrical journey will culminate in a colorful and fun performance for family and friends.

415 Teen Ensemble (Grades 7-11)

This winter, SFYT 415 Teen Ensemble will collaborate present the full-scale production She Kills Monsters, by Qui Nguyen. 
A blend of fantasy, drama, and comedy with plenty of stage combat thrown in for good measure. It tells the story of Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes discovers Tilly's "Dungeons and Dragons" notebook, she finds herself on a journey of discovery and adventure.
